Hane-makikomi

Hane-makikomi is a springing wraparound throw. Tori begins the hane-goshi action, traps Uke's arm beneath the armpit, and continues the hip-and-leg spring into a side-falling wrap when Uke resists.

Movement sequence

  1. Enter for hane-goshi with forward off-balance and close hip contact.
  2. Trap Uke's near arm securely as the springing leg engages Uke's inner leg.
  3. Continue the rotation into a controlled side fall, keeping your torso from landing heavily on Uke.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
