Yoko-otoshi
Yoko-otoshi is a side drop. Tori breaks Uke's balance to the side, slides a leg outside Uke's foot, and falls onto that side while pulling Uke across the open space.

Movement sequence
- Lead Uke laterally until the weight moves beyond the outside edge of the foot.
- Slide your near leg along the mat outside Uke's foot without blocking the knee.
- Drop to your side and continue the lateral pull so Uke travels over the empty line.
- Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
Safety and training context
Use this page to prepare for coached practice, not as a substitute for instruction. Throws, locks, and strangles require appropriate experience, a qualified partner, safe matting, and direct supervision.
