Hikikomi-gaeshi

Hikikomi-gaeshi is a pulling-in sacrifice throw. Against a forward-bent Uke, Tori grips over the shoulder to the back of the belt, falls onto the back while drawing Uke close, and lifts between Uke's legs with one lower leg to send Uke forward or diagonally over the body.

Movement sequence

  1. Reach over Uke's shoulder for a deep rear belt grip and keep Uke's bent torso close.
  2. Sit and roll onto your back beneath Uke while placing a lower leg against the inside of Uke's thigh.
  3. Pull the belt and lift with the leg so Uke travels over you, steering the finish forward or to a safe side.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
