Hiza-gatame

Ude-hishigi-hiza-gatame is a knee arm lock. Tori controls Uke's wrist and upper arm, places the knee against the elbow joint as the fulcrum, and extends the arm while keeping Uke's shoulder and posture contained.

Movement sequence

  1. Control the wrist and trap Uke's upper arm beneath your armpit or against your body.
  2. Place the inside of the knee precisely against the elbow joint without dropping body weight onto it.
  3. Extend the arm gradually across the knee and release immediately when Uke taps.
  4. Apply only under qualified supervision, increase pressure gradually, and release immediately when Uke taps.
