Hiza-guruma

Hiza-guruma is a knee wheel. Tori breaks Uke's balance toward a front corner, places the sole against the outside-front of Uke's knee to stop the step, and turns Uke around that point with the hands.

Movement sequence

  1. Lead Uke toward the front corner and keep the upper body moving past the supporting leg.
  2. Place the sole lightly against the outside-front of the knee without kicking or hyperextending it.
  3. Continue the circular sleeve-and-lapel action so Uke wheels around the controlled knee.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
