Ko-uchi-gari

Ko-uchi-gari is a minor inner reap. Tori makes Uke load one foot, enters between the legs, and reaps that foot from the inside while directing Uke backward over the removed support.

Movement sequence

  1. Use the grips to place Uke's weight on the foot you will attack and keep Uke upright.
  2. Step close between Uke's feet and contact the inside of the loaded heel with the sole or heel of your reaping foot.
  3. Reap the foot backward as the hands guide Uke onto the rear corner and maintain control.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
