Uchi-mata

Uchi-mata is an inner-thigh throw. Tori breaks Uke's balance forward, pivots on one leg, and lifts Uke's inner thigh with the back of the other thigh while the arms and torso rotate Uke over the supporting leg.

Movement sequence

  1. Draw Uke strongly toward the front corner and enter with your support foot inside Uke's stance.
  2. Pivot on the support leg and bring the sweeping thigh between Uke's legs against the inner thigh.
  3. Lift the sweeping leg behind you while tipping the torso and rotating the grips through the throw.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
