Ippon-seoi-nage

Ippon-seoi-nage is a one-arm shoulder throw. Tori draws Uke forward, threads the free arm under Uke's controlled arm, turns the back close to Uke, and throws by extending the legs while rotating the shoulder line forward and down.

Movement sequence

  1. Control Uke's sleeve and pull forward so the arm extends away from the body.
  2. Turn beneath that arm, fit your upper arm tightly into Uke's armpit, and place your back close to Uke's chest.
  3. Drive from bent legs and rotate forward while keeping Uke's arm secured through the landing.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
