Morote-seoi-nage

Morote-seoi-nage is a two-handed shoulder throw. Keeping both sleeve and lapel grips, Tori breaks Uke's balance forward, turns under the lapel-side arm with the elbow fitted beneath Uke's armpit, and rotates Uke over the back.

Movement sequence

  1. Pull Uke forward with both grips and create space beneath the lapel-side armpit.
  2. Turn in on bent legs, place the lapel-side elbow under Uke's armpit, and connect your back to Uke's chest.
  3. Extend the legs and rotate the shoulders forward and down while preserving both grips.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
