Kata-te-jime

Katate-jime is a one-hand strangle. From Uke's side, Tori takes a deep thumb-inside grip on the far collar and uses the edge of the forearm and controlled body position to tighten that collar against the neck.

Movement sequence

  1. Stabilize Uke on the back and take a deep thumb-inside grip on the far collar.
  2. Align the gripping forearm along the side of Uke's neck while the free hand controls posture or shoulder movement.
  3. Apply pressure with a compact body shift rather than a neck crank, and release immediately at the tap.
  4. Apply only under qualified supervision, monitor Uke continuously, and release immediately when Uke taps.
