Sode-guruma-jime

Sode-guruma-jime is a sleeve-wheel strangle. Facing Uke, Tori places one forearm across the front of the neck and the other behind it, grips the first sleeve, and rotates the forearms so their edges close around the sides of the neck.

Movement sequence

  1. Place one forearm across Uke's neck and reach the other arm behind the neck.
  2. Grip your own sleeve securely and place the free hand or forearm edge beside Uke's neck.
  3. Rotate the arms as a compact frame and remove slack slowly, releasing immediately when Uke taps.
  4. Apply only under qualified supervision, monitor Uke continuously, and release immediately when Uke taps.
