Kibisu-gaeshi

Kibisu-gaeshi is a heel reversal. Tori controls Uke's upper body, catches a heel from the inside or outside, and draws it away while directing Uke backward over the remaining support. Direct leg attacks are restricted under current IJF contest rules.

Movement sequence

  1. Create a brief backward reaction and lower your level without collapsing posture.
  2. Cup or reap Uke's heel with one hand while the other hand controls the upper body.
  3. Remove the heel and guide Uke backward in the same instant, following current competition rules.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
