Morote-gari

Morote-gari is a two-handed leg reap. Tori lowers the level, controls both of Uke's legs from the outside, and drives forward while drawing the legs in to remove Uke's base. Direct leg attacks are restricted under current IJF contest rules.

Movement sequence

  1. Close distance with upright head position and lower your level beneath Uke's hips.
  2. Wrap both legs from the outside with your arms while keeping your spine aligned.
  3. Drive through Uke's center and gather the legs as you guide the fall; practise only under current rule guidance.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
