O-soto-guruma

O-soto-guruma is a major outer wheel. Tori breaks Uke's balance backward, places an extended leg behind both of Uke's legs, and rotates Uke backward around that leg while maintaining close upper-body control.

Movement sequence

  1. Move Uke's weight toward the heels and step your support foot close outside Uke.
  2. Place the extended attacking leg behind both of Uke's legs without striking the knees.
  3. Drive the upper body backward and rotate Uke over the leg as a fixed axis.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
