Obi-otoshi
Obi-otoshi is a belt drop. Tori grips the front of Uke's belt, steps behind while controlling the hip from the front, and breaks Uke's balance backward before lifting and directing Uke to the mat.

Movement sequence
- Take a secure front belt grip and draw Uke forward enough to step behind safely.
- Place the other arm across the front of Uke's hip or thigh and turn Uke's balance backward.
- Lift through the belt-and-hip connection and guide Uke down without twisting the spine.
- Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
Safety and training context
