Uchi-mata-sukashi

Uchi-mata-sukashi is an evasion counter to uchi-mata. Tori removes the hips and attacked leg from the lifting line, lets Uke's sweeping action pass, and redirects Uke's forward rotation to the mat with the hands.

Movement sequence

  1. Recognize Uke's uchi-mata entry early and keep a mobile, upright base.
  2. Withdraw or turn the hips so Uke's sweeping thigh passes without loading you.
  3. Use the sleeve and lapel to continue Uke's forward rotation into the empty space.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
