Uki-goshi

Uki-goshi is a floating hip throw. Tori breaks Uke's balance forward, places only the side of the hip across Uke, draws Uke close around the waist, and rotates Uke around the hip without a full lift onto the back.

Movement sequence

  1. Draw Uke forward and wrap the waist with close chest contact.
  2. Turn only enough to place the side of your hip against Uke's lower abdomen.
  3. Twist the torso and guide the sleeve so Uke rotates around the hip in a compact arc.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
