Uki-otoshi

Uki-otoshi is a floating drop. Tori breaks Uke's balance strongly toward the front corner, withdraws to create empty space, and uses precise hand action to pull Uke down along that diagonal without a blocking leg or hip lift.

Movement sequence

  1. Lead Uke forward and continue drawing the balance toward the front corner.
  2. Step or kneel away from Uke's line so the support disappears without obstructing the legs.
  3. Pull the sleeve and guide the lapel down the same diagonal, keeping continuous control through the fall.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
