Uki-waza

Uki-waza is a floating side sacrifice throw. Tori breaks Uke's balance toward a front corner, extends a leg outside Uke's foot, and falls to the side while rotating Uke over the open line.

Movement sequence

  1. Draw Uke diagonally forward until the balance passes the front corner.
  2. Extend your near leg along the mat outside Uke's foot while keeping it clear of the knee.
  3. Fall to your side and continue the circular hand action so Uke floats over the extended line.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
