Utsuri-goshi
Utsuri-goshi is a hip-shift counter. Tori stops Uke's turning throw with lowered hips, lifts Uke close, shifts the hips across beneath Uke while Uke is elevated, and completes a hip throw in the opposite direction.

Movement sequence
- Lower your center and close around Uke's waist as the attacking hip throw begins.
- Lift Uke vertically with the legs and hips while keeping the torso close.
- Shift your hips across beneath Uke and rotate into the counter throw with controlled sleeve support.
- Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
Safety and training context
