Yoko-guruma

Yoko-guruma is a side wheel often used as a counter. Tori controls Uke's forward-bent torso, slides a leg between Uke's legs from the front, and falls to the side while rotating Uke over the body.

Movement sequence

  1. Use Uke's forward commitment and secure close control around the waist or upper body.
  2. Slide your near leg between Uke's legs as your body turns sideways beneath the center.
  3. Fall to the side and guide Uke in a wheel over your torso, maintaining arm control.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
