Yoko-wakare

Yoko-wakare is a side separation throw. Tori breaks Uke's balance forward, places the body crosswise in front of Uke while falling to the side, and pulls Uke over the torso without using a leg reap.

Movement sequence

  1. Draw Uke forward and step both feet outside Uke's leading line.
  2. Turn crosswise and lower your body to the side in front of Uke without colliding with the knees.
  3. Continue the forward pull so Uke rotates over your torso to a controlled landing.
  4. Maintain the controlling grip, guide Uke to a safe landing, and practise the action under qualified supervision.
